Welcome to Wonderfully Vegetarian - a down-to-earth cooking experience based on my kitchen exploits.

Nothing will benefit human health and increase chances for survival of life on Earth as much as the evolution to a vegetarian diet. -- Albert Einstein

You must have heard "Kalyana Samayal satham" song at some point. Well, may be not quite there, but I certainly hope the posts in this blog enrich your cooking experience and lets you approach cooking with a SMILE, rather than as a chore or a rules to follow regimen. Anything Vegetarian goes, ONLY criterion: The end product MUST taste good - to those you are serving.

தக்காளி பச்சடி

This is my

first attempt at blogging. Let’s see if it helps people cook with less stress....

Yes, cooking is a breeze, if you know what tastes good! Yes, all you have to do is make what you are cooking tasty and lo and behold everything will fall in place or into the sauce pan!

Jokes apart, here are a few tips.

Before you begin, check your mood. What are you in a mood for? Choose a dish idea accordingly. Next assess what ingredients you have – are they enough to prepare the item? If not, do you have time to get the items? If not, go to "MAMI ENNA SOLREL?" blog! That simple.

My cooking helper is my nose! I realized a long time ago that my sense of smell was a little bit more pronounced and since we do not taste the food before offering to God, I used my smell sense to figure out what was cooking in our kitchen and would tell my mom what ingredient may be missing. So never learnt or did any item by looking at a recipe. To make a long story short, what I cook is not a standard dish all the time. It is simply a tasty dish at any time. And I improvise as I go along and come up with new twists to old or standard items. So I have been brewing with this idea of starting a help line to help frantic stressed out men/women with a need to have a bright idea or a tasty dish within a short time. But did not know how to implement it. My better half was too immersed in his life, repeated requests to this computer whiz, yielded no results. Then yesterday, my friend downstairs asked me a recipe for an item she had in my house the previous day. I gave her the details and said “you know, I sort of make raita literally out of anything and everything, because I like to have raita in my menu”. She said, “why don’t you give me the recipes”. I said I don’t write them down, but then went on to tell her about my “cooking” help line being dormant. She gave me the idea to blog and said if I would do that it would help people like her. So here is to my good friend, “jee” , her real name is being withheld.

Tomato raita:

Cut tomatoes into slightly bigger pieces. Cut green chillies, coriander leaves and onions if you like. Take a spoon of oil, heat, add mustard seeds, pop, add ingredients, salt and let simmer. Cool and add yoghurt and mix, It is ready.

So come on send your strictly VEGETARIAN recipe requests and queries to "MAMI ENNA SOLREL?"

If you are reading this and want an idea for a dish to prepare, tell me what ingredients you have and I will come up with a recipe.

Or if you have questions about cooking a dish , let me see if I can help.
