Welcome to Wonderfully Vegetarian - a down-to-earth cooking experience based on my kitchen exploits.

Nothing will benefit human health and increase chances for survival of life on Earth as much as the evolution to a vegetarian diet. -- Albert Einstein

You must have heard "Kalyana Samayal satham" song at some point. Well, may be not quite there, but I certainly hope the posts in this blog enrich your cooking experience and lets you approach cooking with a SMILE, rather than as a chore or a rules to follow regimen. Anything Vegetarian goes, ONLY criterion: The end product MUST taste good - to those you are serving.

பத்து நிமிடத்தில் படுறா! Channa - Batura in 10 minutes!!

Channa - Batura in 10 minutes!!

Today was very good. We received a magnificent gift from Mother Nature. By about 7.30 p.m., I looked out the window and saw a beautiful rainbow in all its splendour. Just prior to that I had witnessed a young artist's blossoming into a full fleged genius on the electric keyboard.
Yes, if you have not listened to Master. Sathyanarayanan, it is about time to go find a concert and see/ and or hear him.
Just amazing!

Manasu poorippu adaintha, Poori paNNa vEndaama? So here comes the short-cut Channa- Batura.

Channa:
Get two cans of garbanzo beans, open, clean and keep aside.
Cut
tomatoes, onions, garlic, green chillies, ginger finely. Take appropriate quantities; for eg: for 2 cans, 2 big onions, 3 cloves of garlic, 7-8 tomatoes, 4-5 greenchillies and a small piece of ginger.

Take a saucepan, add 2-3 spoons of oil. Drop the ingredients in the reverse order, one by one, and saute well (golden brown).
Add the garbanzo beans.
Add salt to taste, turmeric powder, 1/4 spoon garam masala, 1/2 spoon chilli powder, 1/4 spoon jeera powder, hing, couple of cloves, bay leaves, and a 1/2 inch of cinnamon.
Mix well and after a couple of minutes, take half the quantity in the sauce pan and blend it nicely with generous quantity of water.
Now add the blended mix back to the saucepan. Let it simmer for 5-10 min.
Add coriander leaves and some lemon juice.
Your CHANNA is ready.
Batura:

Take oil in a sauce pan to fry. Open a packet of tortillas and fry one by one.
Your tasty Batura is ready.

Now make a raita with onion or bhoondi or tomatoes.

Add a side dish of finely sliced onions - mirchi and lemon wedges.

Your yummy dinner is ready. You will see the smiles as big as the Pooris on their faces!
Try and let me know.

Happy cooking!!!!!!! and listening to music you love!!!!!!!!
